Costa Coffee is recalling a mug due to choking risks
Costa, Poundland and TK Maxx are recalling a number of items due to health and safety risks.
The Office for Products, Safety and Standards (OPSS) has recalled products this month due to various risks they pose on customers. Some of the safety fears include risk of choking, drowning, electrical shocks and chemical risks.
When the OPSS issues a recall, it shares details on what you should do if you have bought the item, what is happening with the item, as well as detailed information on why the product is being pulled from shelves.

Poundland 'Small and bright' Wooden Xylophone Toy (2302-0014)
Brand: Poundland ‘Small and bright’
Hazard: The product has been recalled as it has insufficient glue holding the balls on the end of the mallets in place. If these balls were to detach, they would become small parts that could be placed in a child’s mouth causing them to choke.

Niluoya Phone Charger 2M Cable with Wall Plug sold via Amazon (2208-0038)
Type: Electrical appliances and equipment - Charger
Hazard: The product poses a high risk of electric shock as there is poor insulation and inadequate creepage and clearance. There was also no triple insulation wire used in the transformer. Electrical insulation between mains / accessible parts may degrade over time as creepage & clearances distances are insufficient (measured 0.6mm). The product also failed the electric strength test at 3000V and was not supplied with all the required documentations and markings.

Type: Electrical Appliances and Equipment - Salt Lamp
Hazard: The product presents a high risk of electric shock as the construction of the product means that moisture from the salt lamp can drip onto metal components with mains voltage, presenting a risk of electric shock. The plug pin dimensions do not comply with BS 1363 so may damage a plug socket and potentially cause a fire or electric shock.

Costa Coffee Valentine's Mug (2301-0182)
Type: Kitchen / cooking accessories – Glass cup
Hazard: The product presents a choking risk as the small glass heart within the glass cup could detach and become a small part, which young infants may place into their mouths and choke.

Aqualung UK Calypso Regulator (2301-0171)
Type: Personal protective equipment (PPE) - Scuba Diving Regulator
Product: Aqualung UK Calypso Regulator (2301-0171)
Hazard: Regulators containing a potentially defective first stage body presents a serious risk of drowning. A variation in the manufacturing process of the first stage regulator has been identified, which results in a thinner wall section.
An uncontrollable free flow of the second stage could occur if this section ruptured under pressure, causing a catastrophic gas loss that may result in drowning. The manufacturing defect means the affected regulators may not supply the user with a breathable gaseous mixture and therefore do not meet the relevant essential health and safety requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective equipment.
The issue only affects Calypso regulators with specific common part numbers (CPN) and serial numbers provided here.
Product Description: The Calypso regulator controls the pressure of breathing gas for diving. It is connected to a gas cylinder containing oxygen compressed to a high pressure.
Corrective action: Withdrawal of all affected products from the supply chain.

Hazard: The product presents a chemical risk as testing concluded that it contains an excess amount of phthalates. Phthalates can potentially harm children’s health either via cancer or non-cancer effect and may cause the child to have long term health implications.
The product also presents a risk of asphyxiation as the ‘pool’ plastic packaging had dimensions greater than 100mm by 100mm, therefore the average plastic sheeting thickness must not be less than 0.038mm. The average plastic sheeting thickness was found to be 0.025mm.

3M™ Versaflo™ A2B2E2K1HgP Filter, TR-6580E (2212-0126)
Type: Personal protective equipment (PPE) - Respirator Filter

Hazard: Internal quality testing of TR-6580E filters, labelled as suitable for storage between -30⁰C /+50⁰C, demonstrated that this product does not meet the performance requirements of the relevant standard, when subject to the temperature range described in the storage instructions (intended conditions of use):
Therefore, it cannot be assured that these products meet the stated performance standards, and may have reduced breakthrough times for the gases and vapors that the filter is certified to protect against. This is particularly significant when the product is being used to protect against mercury vapour (Hg), as mercury vapour does not have clear warning properties should breakthrough occur.
Product Description: TR-6580E filters are used with the 3M™ Versaflo™ TR-600 and TR-800 Powered Air Purifying Respirators.
Corrective action: Recall of the product from end users. The product has been withdrawn from the market. End Users should contact 3M Sales Representatives if they have any queries.
Jeaxus Magnetic Developmental Toys sold via Amazon (2212-0141)
Hazard: The product has been deemed unsafe due to its small parts. If a child were to put this product in their mouth, there is a potential for them to choke. Also, the magnets themselves had a magnetic flux density of 211.3 kg2mm2, higher than the maximum permitted of 50 kg2mm2. Furthermore, if the child detaches more than one magnet and the parent does not notice, the magnets may attract each other in the intestines, damaging the child’s digestive system and causing internal wounds.

Salsa Cycles Cowbell Carbon Cowchipper Carbon Handlebars (2212-0218)
Type: Hobby / sports equipment – Bicycle handlebars
Products affected: Cowbell carbon drop handlebar in black and Cowchipper carbon drop handlebar in black, sizes 38 – 46cm and 48 – 52cm.
Hazard: It has been identified that the handlebars may crack or break where the brake/shift levers are installed. If the handlebars crack or break the rider could lose control of the bicycle and fall, leading to serious injury.

Type: Electrical appliances and equipment – Slimming machine
Hazard: This product presents high risk of electric shock due to its inadequate sizing. The plug on the product failed to comply with BS1363-1 as the thickness of the live and neutral pins was found to be 4.11 & 4.07 mm which exceeds the limit of 4.05mm.
The British Standard also requires the thickness of the earth pin to be no less than 3.9mm. The dimension of the pin on this product was found to be 3.85 mm. The dimensions of the sleeved parts of the pins differed from the metal parts of the pins. This resulted in a distinct step between the two and could cause damage to the socket.
If this is significant damage, it could cause the product to become live. The fuse also had insecurely fitted endcaps, that had simply been pushed on trapping the fuse wire alongside the barrel. The fuse had not been supplied with any granular filler, which is required to ensure safe operation of the fuse under fault conditions.
The product was also missing some required marking and documentation and did not comply with the Plugs and Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994 or the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.

Hazard: The product poses a high risk of electric shock as the creepage and clearance distances couldn’t be measured due to triple insulated windings that are terminated on the printed circuit board away from the transformer. The product also failed the drop test, where it was dropped onto a solid wood surface from 1000mm 3 times. On the third drop, the insulated shutter opening device fractured, giving consumers access to live parts which could give them an electric shock.Model number\u0009UPS-220

Hazard: A manufacturing flaw may have caused potential defects in some of the power banks. The negative temperature coefficient thermistors (“NTCs”) may have been misplaced during the production process. This causes the NTC to press on and damage the battery cell, which can lead to overheating of the power bank.
