After buying a new iPhone, the first thing you should do is get a protective and stylish case. But not all iPhone 14 cases support one of the device's best features: MagSafe.

MagSafe is Apple's wireless charging technology that uses magnets to quickly and securely charge your phone. Beyond charging, MagSafe can also accommodate a whole new world of magnetic accessories like car mounts, phone grips, wallets and more.

If you buy any old case, there's no guarantee that the magnetic connection will be strong enough to securely snap on an accessory. That's why it's important to look for a case that is compatible with MagSafe, which usually means it has magnets integrated into the back of it.

We've gathered the best iPhone 14 cases that will protect your phone, look good, and support MagSafe, from official cases made by Apple to trusted third-party brands like Otterbox and Gear4.

Note: All of the cases featured here come in different sizes to fit all four iPhone 14 models, from the iPhone 14 to the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

This official Apple case is made out of silicone that feels soft to the touch, but sturdy enough to shield your iPhone from regular wear and tear like scratches and drops. Available in various eye-pleasing colors for all models (including the iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max), it's an excellent choice for anyone looking for a minimalist case design that doesn't show the MagSafe symbol.

The biggest gripe we have with clear cases is that they tend to discolor and yellow over time. But we're happy to report that Apple's clear case stays clear with long-time use, ensuring you keep the color of your choice visible while adding protection. Whether you have the base iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, or iPhone 14 Pro Max, you can't go wrong with Apple's clear offering.

The last of Apple's three official cases is the Leather Case. This case snaps cleanly onto the iPhone, and features a soft tanned leather exterior. It's also protective, and comes in five vibrant colors. Apple makes versions for the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

I've trusted Spigen cases for years, and their most recent release, the Tough Armor MagFit, is their best design yet. The case is built to shield your iPhone from all sorts of damage, even drops onto hard concrete, which has happened to your correspondent. Rounding out the design is a handy built-in kickstand. It's available for all iPhone 14 models, including the iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Otterbox is known for its especially thick and sturdy phone cases, and their Defender XT series cranks both of those qualities up to 11. Granted, the Defender Series XT case will add a noticeable amount of bulk to your carry, but in exchange your device gets industry-leading protection. It's available for every iPhone 14 model, including the iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The Case-Mate Blox is one of the most unique looking iPhone cases on the market. It looks like a hard rectangular shell, and totally replaces the device's normal round edges with sharp corners. It's a wild look that'll make your iPhone stand out in any crowd. It's also sturdy, protecting your iPhone from drops up to 10 feet high. It's available in a wide array of colors (we're partial to the matte clay) for the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The Bellroy Mod is a beautiful leather iPhone case, which is already a great start. But add in Bellroy's matching Mod Wallet, which latches onto the back of your phone and holds three cards, and you've got an iconic duo. Whether the wallet is on or off, this Bellroy case is slim and stylish. You can buy the case and wallet together (in one of seven colors), or order one by itself. Just note that you'll need to take the wallet off to use your iPhone's MagSafe features.

Totallee prides itself on making their iPhone cases as thin and lightweight as possible. The company's signature case is less than a millimeter thick and weighs only 0.1 ounces. Despite this, the "world's thinnest case" will still protect your phone from scratches and minor drops — no matter whether you have a standard iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, or iPhone 14 Pro Max.

If you're looking for a clear iPhone case that doesn't skimp on protection, check out the Incipio Grip. This case model is named for the signature textured grips it adds to each side of the iPhone, making it more difficult to accidentally drop your device. It's also made with an antimicrobial material that wards off germs and bacteria. You can buy versions made for the  iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, or iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The Gear4 Santa Cruz Snap is a stylish clear case that's been tested on drops up to 13 feet high. It's made with a special material called D3O, a flexible material that hardens on impact to protect your device. And much like the Incipio Grip, it has textured grips on the sides and a built-in antimicrobial agent. The company makes versions for the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

If you're after eco-friendly tech products, Nimble's MagSafe Disc Case is made almost entirely from recycled CDs and DVDs. And even with that unique construction, it's still scratch resistant and certified to protect from falls up to 10 feet high. Better yet, the case — which is available for all iPhone 14 models — comes with a free shipping label so you can send any used plastic phone case for recycling.

Typically available for around $20, Smartish's Gripmunk is one of the cheapest MagSafe-compatible cases on the market. But don't let the price fool you. This slim case can protect your iPhone while being grippy and pocketable. There are air pockets built into each corner of the case, which act as cushioning for any errant drops. It also comes in a variety of colors and designs for the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The Mous Evolution IntraLock is a sturdy case that will protect your iPhone from dirt, scratches, and drops. But what makes this case appealing is that it's compatible with the brand's ecosystem of high-quality accessories, including tripods, bike mounts, and more. It's available for the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Moment is one of the most popular filmmaking apps on iPhone, and the company behind it also produces a variety of iPhone accessories. These include specialized iPhone camera lenses, and phone cases that support them. Available for all iPhone 14 series models, Moment's MagSafe Case supports the company's lens mounts, making this a perfect choice for iPhone filmmakers.

When it comes to leather iPhone accessories, Nomad is the king. Depending on your budget, you can buy this Modern Leather case with standard leather or handmade Horween leather, which comes from one of the oldest tanneries in the US. And while the tanned leather is stylish and feels great, Nomad also promises that it'll protect your iPhone from drops up to 10 feet high.

Caudabe's Sheath cases are made with a hard matte material that's both fantastic to the touch and surprisingly strong. They're constructed using a proprietary polymer called "ShockLite," which is designed to shield your iPhone from sudden shocks. Available in up to five colors for the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max, it also comes at a more affordable price than other cases on this list.

The ring on the back of some cases is the MagSafe symbol, and is simply there as a visual sign that they support MagSafe accessories. In general — usually, but not always — a visible MagSafe ring also means that the case has extra magnets built into it. These can make up for the magnetic strength that gets lost by placing a thick case over your phone. When buying a case, check its description to see if it includes built-in magnets.

MagSafe refers to Apple's magnetic technology that allows iPhones to charge at faster wireless speeds — up to 15W with a compatible MagSafe charger. MagSafe also opens up your iPhone to compatible accessories, including cases and portable batteries.

Qi wireless charging, on the other hand, refers to the way that most wireless chargers are built. Nearly all wireless chargers are built using the Qi standard, including MagSafe chargers. If a case supports MagSafe, it supports Qi charging too, but not necessarily vice versa.

iPhones have supported Qi wireless charging since the iPhone 8. But only the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14 lines have supported MagSafe.
